The Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb, in cooperation with the “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” Defence and Security University, has established a newly accredited joint lifelong learning programme: the international winter and summer school “Climate Change and Security Challenges”.
At its 12th session in the University’s 356th academic year (2024/2025), held on 23 September 2025, the Senate of the University of Zagreb adopted a decision on the establishment and delivery of the joint lifelong learning programme, the international school “Climate Change and Security Challenges”, offered by the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb and the “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” Defence and Security University.
The Programme Director is Associate Professor Andreja Sršen, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. The Programme Co-Director is Professor Luka Mihanović, PhD, Vice-Rector at the “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” Defence and Security University.
The programme responds to society’s current need for education on the impact of climate change across all dimensions of security. These challenges significantly affect people’s quality of life and shape social relations, relations between states and emerging geopolitical dynamics.
The programme is particularly significant as the first accredited joint lifelong learning programme at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. An additional strength is the agreed arrangement with Split-Dalmatia County to provide a base for field teaching. This will enable participants to undertake practical learning and gain direct insight into examples of good practice in local and regional government.
